Michael
Lord (founder & president)
has a combination of business, legal, and executive search experience
that adds considerable depth to the services he provides.
Before
founding legal search firm Michael Lord & Company,
Lord worked for several years at one of New York's
veteran attorney placement firms.
From 2004-2007, he was a member of the twelve-person
Board of Directors of the National Association of
Legal
Search
Consultants, the leading trade association in
the attorney search industry, and co-chaired the
communications committee. Michael is actively involved
in the Gotham Networking Group in Manhattan, the
Professional Advisory Network in Connecticut, the
Syracuse University Law Alumni Association, and
the Lake Club of Wilton, Connecticut.
Since
the founding of the firm, Michael has built a diverse
client base consisting of blue chip national law
firms, mid sized and boutique law firms in the metropolitan
region, financial institutions, hedge funds, and
retail chains. Michael is a sought-after commentator
on legal hiring trends. He has been quoted in Crain's
New York Business, Legal Week, Corporate
Counsel Magazine, IA Week, and Institutional
Investor's Compliance Reporter on various subjects
including law firm break ups, compensation matters,
associate hiring, and attorney retention.
He has also conducted a seminar for job seekers
on
behalf of the New York State Bar Association.
Most recently, Michael was selected as a contributing
author for a newly released book on the legal recruiting
industry entitled The
Art and Science of Legal Recruiting,
published by Aspatore Books and available on www.amazon.com.
Michael holds a B.A. from Emory University, where
he played varsity tennis, and a J.D. from Syracuse
University, where he was an Executive Editor
of the Syracuse Law Review and a member
of the Moot Court Board. Before entering the legal
search field, Lord spent nearly a decade as an attorney
with law firms in New York and Connecticut. Earlier
in his career, Lord was Deputy Finance Director
for Robert S. Abrams' United States Senate campaign
and had been with the CHD Public
Relations firm.
Andrew Gurman (vp,
recruiting)
Andrew focuses on the placement of associates and partners at law firms and corporations in all practice areas.
Prior to joining the company, Andrew was an associate in the Employment Law Departments of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLC in New York.
Mr. Gurman earned his B.A. in Psychology, summa cum laude, from Yale University in 1998, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2001. Prior to private practice, Andrew served as a law clerk to Judge John C. Lifland, United States District Judge, District of New Jersey.
Andrew is active with the Harvard Club of New York City, the Yale Alumni Schools Committee, Minds Matter, the U.S. Tennis Association, and the American Association of Individual Investors. Andrew

Amanda Hernandez Lord (vp,
operations)
joined the company in 2004 as its Vice President
for Operations, bringing nearly thirteen years of
legal, marketing, and operational experience. Amanda
will focus on (1) maintaining the integrity of the
company’s proprietary database; (2) managing
outside vendors; and (3) coordinating billing, invoicing,
and accounting.
Prior to joining the company, Amanda was a brand
manager for Beiersdorf Inc, the $4 billion global
skin care conglomerate. During her nearly ten years
of escalating responsibilities at Beiersdorf, Amanda
developed successful marketing strategies and new
product introductions for the Nivea, Eucerin and
Aquaphor skin care brands. She conducted numerous
sales presentations to national retailers such as
Target, Walgreens and CVS. Amanda had full P&L
responsibility for her businesses and was responsible
for building her team through extensive interviewing,
hiring and training new employees.
A former attorney,
Amanda practiced for two years at a civil litigation
firm in Manhattan. She graduated with a B.S. in
Marketing from the University of Connecticut, and
earned a
J.D. from Syracuse University, where she received

Julie Langer Lowitz (strategic
partner)
focuses on the placement of attorneys in law firms
and corporate legal departments and on compliance
professionals at hedge funds, funds of funds, and
private equity funds. Julie has nearly 15 years
of experience in the legal marketplace, including
the last 3 years as a legal recruiter.
Prior to
becoming a recruiter, Julie was an associate at
Kramer Levin and Proskauer Rose, and Associate
General Counsel at the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan.
She
graduated from the University of Michigan and
Syracuse University College of Law.
Julie will provide
greater
depth to the company’s ability to identify,
source, and recruit attorneys and compliance
professionals for its growing roster of corporate
clients. Julie
joins us as a strategic partner and also serves
as a managing director of North Castle Recruiting.
