Michael Lord (managing director)
has a combination of business, legal, and executive search experience that adds considerable depth to the services he provides.
Before founding legal search firm Michael Lord & Company, Lord worked for several years at one of New York’s veteran attorney placement firms. From 2004-2007, he was a member of the twelve-person Board of Directors of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants, the leading trade association in the attorney search industry, and co-chaired the communications committee. Michael is actively involved in the Gotham Networking Group in Manhattan, the Professional Advisory Network in Connecticut, the New York State and Fairfield County (CT) Bar Associations, the Syracuse University Law Alumni Association, and the Lake Club of Wilton, Connecticut.
Since the founding of the firm, Michael has built a diverse client base consisting of blue chip national law firms, mid sized and boutique law firms in the metropolitan region, financial institutions, hedge funds, and retail chains. Michael regularly conducts retained, exclusive, and semi-exclusive searches for partners and “hard-to-find” associates.
Michael is a sought-after commentator on legal hiring trends. He has been quoted in Crain’s New York Business, The AmLaw Daily, The Connecticut Law Tribune, Legal Week, Corporate Counsel Magazine, The Real Deal, IA Week, and Institutional Investor’s Compliance Reporter. on various subjects including law firm break ups, compensation matters, associate hiring, and attorney retention. He has also conducted a seminar for job seekers on behalf of the New York State Bar Association. Michael was selected as a contributing author for a newly released book on the legal recruiting industry entitled The Art and Science of Legal Recruiting, published by Aspatore Books and available on www.amazon.com.
Michael holds a B.A. from Emory University, where he played varsity tennis, and a J.D. from Syracuse University, where he was an Executive Editor of the Syracuse Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board. Before entering the legal search field, Michael spent nearly a decade as an attorney with law firms in New York and Connecticut. Earlier in his career, Michael was Deputy Finance Director for Robert S. Abrams’ United States Senate campaign and had been with the CHD Public Relations firm.

Andrew Gurman (managing director)
Andrew has several years of legal recruiting experience and focuses on the placement of associates and partners at law firms and corporations. He has placed many attorneys in practice areas including litigation, labor and employment, bankruptcy, corporate, real estate, antitrust, ERISA litigation/compliance, matrimonial, intellectual property, leveraged finance, regulatory compliance, and internet law. Andrew works with corporate and law firm clients on exclusive and non-exclusive searches, including with start-ups and small and mid-sized entities. He has consistently achieved success on challenging, exclusive searches involving limited pools of qualified candidates. Andrew helps attorneys considering career transitions by providing them with market information, reviewing resumes, presenting appropriate opportunities, preparing candidates for interviews, and negotiating offers. A few examples of successful engagements include placing an in-house attorney in a General Counsel and Vice President position with a manufacturing and retail company, an Assistant U.S. Attorney and a BigLaw litigation associate with a small litigation boutique, a matrimonial partner with a 30-attorney full-service boutique, a law firm associate in an in-house compliance position with a private equity company, a top-three law firm corporate associate with a full-service boutique, a BigLaw litigation associate with another BigLaw international law firm, a BigLaw labor and employment associate with a 100-attorney full-service boutique, and a leveraged finance attorney with a start-up corporation.
Before recruiting, Andrew was an associate in the Employment Law Departments of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLC in New York. Andrew earned his B.A. in Psychology, summa cum laude, from Yale University in 1998 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2001. Prior to private practice, Andrew served as a law clerk to Judge John C. Lifland, United States District Judge, District of New Jersey.
Andrew is active as a Co-Director of Test Preparation and a member of the National Executive Committee for Minds Matter, a not-for-profit that helps high-achieving high school students from low-income families by preparing them for college success; an interviewer of Yale College applicants for the Yale Alumni Schools Committee; and a member of the Harvard Club of New York City. Other interests include spending time with his fiancée, cat, and dog; playing and watching tennis; and exploring areas such as environmental sustainability, investments, psychology, nutrition, and ethics.

Jon Lewis (managing director)
Jon Lewis joined the company in 2009 after spending nearly a decade at another New York City attorney recruiting firm.
A graduate of Wesleyan University and Yale Law School, Jon principally places corporate and intellectual property associates and partners, in law firms and corporations. He has made numerous placements at top-200 law firms, midsize firms, small boutiques and companies in the areas of patent, trademark, mergers & acquisitions, securities, finance, and bankruptcy law, among others.
Prior to entering attorney placement in 1999, Jon was assistant trademark counsel at Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc., and before that was an associate at two well-respected firms in New York.
In his spare time, Jon enjoys coaching youth sports and spending time with his wife, son, and dog.

Amanda Hernandez Lord (vp,
operations)
joined the company in 2004 as its Vice President for Operations, bringing nearly thirteen years of legal, marketing, and operational experience. Amanda focuses on (1) maintaining the integrity of the company’s proprietary database; (2) managing outside vendors; and (3) coordinating billing, invoicing, and accounting.
Prior to joining the company, Amanda was a brand manager for Beiersdorf Inc, the $4 billion global skin care conglomerate. During her nearly ten years of escalating responsibilities at Beiersdorf, Amanda developed successful marketing strategies and new product introductions for the Nivea, Eucerin and Aquaphor skin care brands. She conducted numerous sales presentations to national retailers such as Target, Walgreens and CVS. Amanda had full P&L responsibility for her businesses and was responsible for building her team through extensive interviewing, hiring and training new employees.
A former attorney, Amanda practiced for two years at a civil litigation firm in Manhattan. She graduated with a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Connecticut, and earned a J.D. from Syracuse University, where she received several academic honors.
